Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair, the UK's hottest annual art fair, visited Brick Lane, London, on 8 June 2014 and Liverpool, on 5 July 2014. Famous for being the day the art world lets its hair down, the Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair is the place to go for British eccentricity, incredible bargains, cool art and car commissions. Pop stars mingle with fashion designers, actresses rub shoulders with royalty, and vintage Vauxhalls – such as the Royale, Viva, Chevette and Cavalier – line up alongside newer models.
The Vauxhall Art Cargo – a specially customised Vauxhall Vivaro van packed full of art where visitors could create their own artwork – was a new spectacle for 2014. The Go Forth Plinth featured roof-rack commissions by Danny Chadwick, Bob and Roberta Smith and Julia Vogl. And Gavin Turk created the Art Car Canvas, a commission involving wrapping the entire surface of an Ampera with a canvas material.
Vauxhall joined over 80 renowned artists – including Sir Peter Blake, Gavin Turk, Mat Collishaw, Bob & Roberta Smith, Pam Hogg, Pure Evil, Marcus Harvey and Billy Childish – all of whom pitched up to sell their original and limited-edition works of art at bargain prices from the boot of a vintage Vauxhall.
