With its order books now set to open in mid-January, Cascada – Vauxhall’s all new full-size convertible – will be in showrooms next April, with competitive pricing at odds with the car’s up-market feel and dimensions.
Taking centre stage in Vauxhall’s Heritage Centre with the four other models that have led Vauxhall’s new-sector assault this year – Mokka, ADAM, Zafira Tourer and Ampera - the first Cascada to reach the UK clearly shows the imposing, premium look which is becoming a trademark of larger Vauxhalls.
The Cascada rounds off a year in which Vauxhall has moved into more new sectors than any other UK car manufacturer. The Zafira Tourer came first in January, entering the large MPV class, and by mid-year was leading its segment. The Ampera appeared next in May and effectively created a new E-REV (Extended-Range Electric Vehicle) class in the UK, catching conventional EVs on the hop with its 360-mile range.
More recently, ADAM has entered the fashion-led A-sector, bringing huge levels of personalisation to the mainstream, and Mokka – Vauxhall’s new entrant in the rapidly growing small SUV sector – has already received over 3,000 orders from UK customers.
So, is this changing people’s perception of Vauxhall?
“This has been a landmark year for us,” said Duncan Aldred, Vauxhall’s Chairman and Managing Director. “We’re now the UK’s fastest growing retail car brand, taking 9.4 per cent of the retail market, up from 8.6 per cent in 2011. Cars like the GTC and Zafira dominate their respective sectors and, as we head towards our 110th year of continuous manufacturing in the UK, the future’s never looked brighter for new Vauxhall product.”
