Vauxhall supports National Apprenticeship Week

As part of National Apprenticeship Week, Vauxhall’s Luton head office will be hosting an Apprenticeship Careers Event from 3 to 7 March 2014. Local year 10, 11 and sixth form students have been invited to attend a series of CV and interview workshops. Vauxhall’s own apprentices will also be hosting career fairs and presentations at schools to inspire the next generation of apprentices.

These events are for young people thinking of taking the apprenticeship route. Students will be given a tour of the Plant, take part in a workshop and listen to talks from current Vauxhall apprentices. Bedford College will be on hand to answer questions and give students information regarding learning whilst working.

“This event will give them a good idea of what to expect should they choose the apprenticeship route,” said Dick Burgoine, Vauxhall Manager for Product Evaluation & Service Support.

Vauxhall Motors have successfully entered a team into the Brathay Challenge 2014, designed to discover the 'Apprentice Team of the Year' through a set of challenges. The team, consisting of commercial and engineering apprentices across all Vauxhall sites will be battling against approximately 90 teams to win the 2014 trophy.

A spokesperson for Bedford College, Vauxhall’s education provider for Apprenticeships says, “You get the best of both worlds [with an apprenticeship] by earning as you learn. You can choose from a wide range of practical trades and jobs whilst enjoying the freedom and responsibility of getting paid a real wage for your job. You will gain industry-recognised qualifications, key skills and specialist techniques that could see you progress to high-level jobs in your chosen trade and learn from valuable job experience and time spent on real, busy job sites.”

All Vauxhall apprenticeship programmes have entry requirements and you will be required to undergo initial assessment before being accepted onto the course.

Engineering, Motor Vehicle Technician, Commercial, IT and Accountancy apprenticeships are available for 2014 at Vauxhall. For more information contact Bedford College on 01234 291080 or email
