Our new Home Nations football advert is now on TV! ’Stand Together’ features members of the England football squad with football fans and staff from the Vauxhall Ellesmere Port production facility in Merseyside, UK home of the Vauxhall Astra.
Steven Gerrard, Wayne Rooney, Glen Johnson, Joe Hart, James Milner and Phil Jones all feature in the 60 and 40 second ads. And supporters and players stand proudly together across the country and in the stadium, bringing the nation together.
The soundtrack is adapted from Sir Edward Elgar’s ‘Nimrod’, a patriotic, rousing track first sung by supporters of Elgar’s beloved team the Wolverhampton Wanderers on the terraces, later becoming synonymous with football chants, ‘Britishness’ and even punk rock.
“Stand Together brings players and fans together at a monumental time in the football calendar,” says Peter Hope, Vauxhall’s marketing director. “We’re proud to support the England team and wish them and Roy Hodgson luck in their upcoming matches.”
“During a major tournament we all become football fans and, as Vauxhall is the England team sponsor, we wanted to capture the emotion just before a major England fixture.”
Advertising agency McCann Birmingham developed the campaign for Vauxhall Motors, under the creative direction of Barrie Robinson and Tim Jarvis. Director Cosmo Wallace explains: “Stand Together captures the excitement and anticipation a nation feels heading into a major international football tournament. It aims to capture and celebrate football and how it unites nations with people sharing a common interest.”
