Celebrating 12 years of fun and frivolity, the UK’s hottest annual art fair was a huge success. This year’s fair featured a record 200 artists including Sir Peter Blake, Gavin Turk, Polly Morgan, Mat Collishaw, Bob & Roberta Smith, Pam Hogg, Pure Evil and Ben Eine. Many more pitched up to personally sell their original and limited edition works of art out of the back of new and vintage Vauxhalls, at bargain prices.
The art world let its hair down, coming together to fill Brick Lane Yard with English eccentricity, quirky ideas, incredible bargains and mad performances. It was an art-buying frenzy from the moment the doors opened. Over a thousand people queued and some even camped overnight, all for the chance to grab the special just-for-the-day artworks. And the attendees included VIPs such as Damien Hirst, Noel Fielding, Claudia Winkleman, Tom Beard and Molly Parkin.
Artists Jake & Dinos Chapman, Bob & Roberta Smith, Rachel Howard, Matt Small and Oisin Byrne created artworks on car bonnets provided by Vauxhall Motors. And bidders took part in a live auction at the Fair. They raised an impressive total of £15,000 for Just for Kids Law and The Hepatitis C Trust.
The next edition of the Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair will take place in Margate on 30th August and we’re joining forces with the Turner Contemporary. Tracey Emin and Vic Reeves will be bringing brand new limited edition artworks to the Fair, along with some other homegrown Kentish talent and a load of familiar faces from the London event.
