Mokka: Vauxhall’s all-new baby SUV on sale late 2012Mokka: Vauxhall’s all-new baby SUV on sale late 2012

24-Jan-2012

Vauxhall is to enter the fast-growing sub-compact SUV market with the five-seat Mokka, which blends all the ‘full-size’ SUV design features – raised ground clearance, high seating position and muscular looks – with their distinctive ‘blade’ body styling within its compact (4.28m long) dimensions.

Mokka’s distinctive and robust appearance – enhanced by the wide stance and (on most models, 18-inch alloy wheels) – emphasises its functionality and versatility, ranging from the spacious interior which comfortably accommodates five adults through to its capabilities in more rugged environments. When handling and traction are put to the test with the All-Wheel Drive versions, the system will automatically and seamlessly transfer power to the rear wheels. The Front-Wheel Drive variants will offer greater economy at a lower cost.

Performance will not disappoint those used to more conventional body styles, as the initial choice will include a normally-aspirated 1.6i 16v (115PS) petrol engine, a 1.4i 16v (140PS) Turbo petrol engine, and a torquey 1.7CDTi 16v (130PS) diesel. All feature Start/Stop technology to reduce emissions and maximise fuel economy – with the 1.4-litre Turbo and 1.7-litre diesel both being available with automatic transmission.

Cutting-edge technology features high on Mokka’s agenda – indeed it promises to set new standards in this market sector. All models will feature as standard Electronic Stability Programme and Traction Control, as well as Hill Start Assist and Hill Descent Control to enhance driver comfort and safety in hilly terrain. Also available will be the latest intelligent Adaptive Forward Lighting that uses bi-xenon lighting with High Beam Assist, plus Vauxhall’s innovative safety-related Front Camera System. This provides the driver with Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Alert and Traffic Sign Recognition.

Mokka will be in Vauxhall showrooms towards the end of 2012, with prices and trim levels to be revealed nearer to launch.
