Vauxhall Astra comes out on top on What Car? True MPG test

What Car?'s True MPG tests reveal what sort of fuel economy you can expect in the real world. To ensure accuracy and repeatability, tests are conducted under strictly controlled laboratory conditions but based on a real route that takes in urban, A-road and motorway driving. What Car? have revealed the Vauxhall Astra as the most efficient family car tested so far. Astra beat competitors such as Volkswagen Golf, Audi A3 and Skoda Superb.

The Astra derivative tested was Vauxhall Astra 1.6 CDTi 110 EcoFLEX with What Car? commenting:

“This version of the Vauxhall Astra is the most efficient family car we've ever tested, averaging an impressive 46.4mpg in town and more than 73mpg on rural roads. This 1.6-litre diesel engine is our pick of the range for company car drivers, with a CO2 figure of 97g/km. It's brisk, too, taking just over 10 seconds to get to 60mph, and it is also very refined. If you're looking for a comfortable and economical family hatchback, look no further.”
