This exciting new model receives its debut at this year's Paris Motor Show on 2 October and reaches UK showrooms in November.

Sports Tourer will be the second model to join the range, which sold over 28,000 units in the UK between its launch last December and the end of May, and has become Britain's best-selling retail range in the first five months of 2010.

Practicality and equipment

Packed with clever features, Sports Tourer retains the hatchback model's wheelbase (2685mm) but, thanks to superior packaging, maximum load length is increased by 28mm to 1835mm and load volume is up by 30 litres to 500 litres. Other features include:

  • Cargo area with flat wall linings
  • Availability of FlexFold feature: this allows each section of the 60:40 split-folding rear seatback to be lowered at the press of a button (standard or optional, depending on trim level)
  • Completely flat load floor
  • Maximum load capacity of up to 1550 litres
  • Additional 25 litres of storage space in the passenger compartment (50% more than before) compared to current Astra estate
  • Ergonomic Sports Seats (optional)

Advanced technology

From launch, Sports Tourer customers will have a choice of six lively yet frugal engines, with a lower emissions ecoFLEX model following shortly afterwards:

  • Diesel choice comprises two 1.7 litre CDTi 16v units (110 or 125PS), with emissions targeted to fall below the 120g/km CO2 threshold, plus a 160PS 2.0CDTi 16v engine which matches high performance with 55.4mpg Combined economy and CO2 emissions of just 134g/km
  • Petrol units comprise 100PS 1.4i 16v VVT unit with sequential fuel injection; a 115PS 1.6i 16v engine and a punchy 140PS 1.4i 16v Turbo which achieves a Combined fuel consumption figure of 45.6mpg and CO2 emissions of just 145g/km

Maintaining Vauxhall's commitment to low emissions motoring, the new ecoFLEX model will be one of the first Vauxhalls to adopt Start/Stop technology:

  • Based on the 1.3CDTi 16v (95PS) engine, the car features a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) and variable geometry turbocharger
  • Cuts emissions and fuel consumption

A true Brit

Illustrating the full depth of Vauxhall's engineering and manufacturing excellence in the UK, Sports Tourer will be assembled exclusively at Vauxhall's Ellesmere Port facility in Cheshire.

Continuing the British connection, its new upper-body structure has been 100% engineered at the Vauxhall Engineering Centre in Bedfordshire.
