ecoFLEX technology has significantly reduced carbon dioxide emissions, but there is no single 'big idea' that reduces the output of harmful gases: rather a number of clever changes that combine to increase overall efficiency. These include:
Continual engine development to obtain greatest fuel efficiency
Start/Stop technology that automatically stops the engine when stationary in congested traffic situations, then re-starts again on operating the clutch pedal
Fine tuning of aerodynamics to reduce drag
Optimised gear ratios for cruising at the most economical speed
'Shift-up' indicators to remind the driver when to change gear for greatest efficiency
Low rolling resistance tyres
Lower vehicle weight to reduce the power requirements to accelerate
Now that the electrically driven Ampera E-REV has joined the range, Vauxhall can offer a vehicle that covers up to 50 miles with zero tailpipe emissions – and with (weighted) CO2 emissions of just 27g/km1 when the range-extending generator is operating.

1 = The “Combined/weighted” fuel consumption/CO2 figures calculated from two test results: one the battery fully charged and the other when the battery is discharged. The two test results are a weighted average, taking into account mileage range on battery power only, providing a figure in a variety of charge conditions.
