The Vauxhall Astra engines prove that it is possible to balance lively performance with fuel efficiency and low emissions. Using leading-edge technology, the Astra ECOTEC® engines deliver excellent performance and remarkably low fuel consumption in the compact class.

Petrol engines

Three ECOTEC petrol engines – a 1.4i 16v VVT available with 87PS and 100PS power outputs, and the 115PS 1.6i 16v VVT – feature 16 valves and the latest in variable valve timing (VVT) with optimised swirl characteristics. And there are two turbocharged engines – an exciting all-new 140PS 1.4i 16v VVT and the proven 180PS 1.6i 16v VVT.

Diesel engines

On the diesel side, Astra ECOTEC engine technology is equally impressive – and beneficial. All four engines share cutting-edge common rail multi-injection, variable geometry turbocharger and 16-valve technology.

ecoFLEX

And your choice runs to four ecoFLEX units - a 1.3CDTi 16v (95PS), two 1.7CDTi 16v versions (110PS and 125PS) - or our top-of-the-range 2.0CDTi 16v (165PS).

 

With CO2 emissions of just 104g/km, power output of 95PS and 190Nm maximum torque available across a wide rev range, the Astra 1.3CDTi 16v ecoFLEX Start / Stop models not only qualify for zero Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) in the first year, but also underline our commitment to sustainability, fuel economy and reductions in CO2 emissions, without compromising performance and driveability.

Start/Stop System

The Start / Stop System further optimises fuel savings especially in city traffic. The engine stops when the car comes to a standstill with transmission in neutral and starts instantly as soon as the clutch pedal is being activated again. The system can be activated/deactivated via a button on the instrument panel. When the system is active and the engine is stopped, the rev-counter needle goes to the labelled “AUTOSTOP” position to signal readiness for automatic start. The Start / Stop System uses an enhanced alternator, starter, and a specific battery and is standard with the 1.3 CDTI ecoFLEX Start / Stop models and the recently introduced, more powerful (165PS) 2.0CDTi 16v engine also with Start/Stop technology.
