The Vauxhall Meriva is packed with innovative thinking aimed at making life easier, more comfortable and more convenient. Its ergonomic system comprises FlexDoors®, FlexSpace®, an ergonomic sports seat and the integrated Flex-Fix® bicycle carrier. Together with the variable luggage compartment and up to 32 storage possibilities, this system brings entirely new dimensions to on-board flexibility.

FlexDoors® system

With its ingenious FlexDoors®, the Meriva welcomes you with open arms. Front and rear doors open to almost 90°, so getting in and out could not be easier. Wider access makes it easier to lift young children in and out of the car and secure them safely into a child seat. And, if you open both front and rear doors, you create a parent-friendly zone where it’s easier to control children as they step in and out of the car.

 

FlexDoors® are far kinder on your back too. Research by the Department of Industrial Design at Coventry University looked at the effects of lifting even a 5kg object (a small baby for example) in and out of Meriva’s rear seats. Compared with the previous model, the FlexDoors® help reduce back-muscle loads by up to 58% and leaning and twisting angles by up to 48%. Back strain was reduced even when just getting in and out of the car.

 

FlexDoors® also provide a range of benefits:

  • Parents can reach the child seats more easily to help with buckling
  • Children can be more safely controlled when getting in and out of the vehicle
  • There’s easier access in narrow parking spaces
  • FlexSpace® seats can be easily configured.

FlexRail® storage system

FlexRail® is a unique modular storage system that provides highly versatile, modular, multi-level storage and occupies the deep space between the two front seats. You can arrange and re-arrange the components of this unique modular system on aluminium rails to provide tailor-made stowage for each and every journey.

 

Available within the Meriva range:

  • Optimal position of armrest and cup-holders with all seat positions
  • Large, flexible stowage, big enough for handbags, notebooks, colouring books, MP3 players
  • Easy storage access for rear passengers.

FlexSpace® seating system

If you value spontaneity, you´ll appreciate FlexSpace®. The Meriva is as spontaneous as you. It´s good to know that you´ll always be able to arrange the interior to manage whatever you have planned. What if plans change? No problem. Whether you need seats for up to five passengers or space for bulky items, the Meriva can handle it all without ever having to remove a single seat.

  • Outer rear seats can be slid backwards and inwards in one single operation to create luxurious leg and shoulder room, in four-seater configuration
  • One-touch folding from cabin and luggage compartment
  • No need to remove the rear headrests
  • Flat load-floor for up to 1,496 litres of luggage space.

Ergonomic front sports seat

No matter how you drive, or how far, seat comfort is a vital necessity. The Meriva features an optional fully orthopaedic, ergonomic sports seat that adjusts eight ways for the driver and six ways for the front passenger. Both seats have a four-way electro-pneumatic lumbar support to suit your posture perfectly.


The ergonomic drivers’ sports seat is approved and recommended by AGR (Aktion Gesunder Rücken e.V.), a German medical association that has set orthopaedic requirements for car seats.

Flex Floor load compartment

The luggage compartment is designed to make life easier for you. Our two-position, adjustable luggage compartment floor is standard on all models. When lowered, it maximises rear-load height and volume. In the upper position, it’s flush with the folded rear seats and the rear sill, providing a flat loadspace area with easy loading – plus a useful 86 litres of load-space under the Flex Floor.

 

Other features include:

  • Closed storage in the sidewall for first aid kit etc.
  • Retractable hook for bags (holds up to 3kg) which doubles-up as a stay for the Flex Floor in the open position
  • Four load-lashing eyes.

Flex-Fix® rear carrier system

The fully integrated optional rear carrier system, capable of safely transporting two bicycles, disappears into the rear bumper when not in use. Always there when you need it. Out of sight when you don’t.

Up to 32 storage possibilities

Flexibility also means there is space for almost everything in exactly the right place. The range of up to 32 accessible, flexible and usefully sized storage spaces include a generous glovebox, roomy door pockets (front and rear) and a driver’s side sunglasses holder. Seat-back tables and front underseat storage are two further features available on SE models.
