The UK’s most original art event, the Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair, returned to the Old Truman Brewery for its ninth annual event on 27 May with an exciting line-up of artists and entertainment.
The Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair makes art accessible to the public in a unique and entertaining way, providing a rare opportunity for people to meet high-profile artists as they sell their work at bargain prices from Vauxhall car boots.
This year’s artists included Sir Peter Blake, Tracy Emin, Bob and Roberta Smith, Oliver Guy Watkins, Pete Fowler, Jessica Albarn, Polly Morgan, Turps Banana and style icon Pam Hogg.
Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair 2012 saw the introduction of the Handbag Disco where leading fashion icons and designers – including Victoria Beckham, Tilda Swinton, Liberty Ross, Pearl and Daisy Lowe, Lulu Guinness, Martha Lane Fox and Alesha Dixon – donated handbags.
The art-loving crowd included plenty of familiar faces including Jaime Winstone, Jarvis Cocker, Mr Hudson and Alison Mosshart who joined in on the fun, grabbing bargains and dancing at the Handbag Disco.
Vauxhall cars provided a backdrop for much of the activity with on-the-bonnet snail racing on the Viva HA Deluxe, in-car scalextric through the Frizena HP and a live ‘freezing’ of the Astra GTC by artist Oliver Guy Watkins.
