New Vauxhall Astra and Astra Sports Tourer Overview
The New Astra and Astra Sports Tourer feature a refreshed design inspired by the Vauxhall Experimental concept, incorporating the Vauxhall Vizor and a permanently illuminated Griffin logo. The range offers a comprehensive selection of powertrains, including fully electric, 48V hybrid, and plug-in hybrid options. A 1.2-litre petrol engine with manual and automatic transmissions will be added to the line-up later in 2026. The interior has been upgraded with a focus on comfort and sustainability, including Intelli-Seats made from 100% recycled materials. Advanced driving technologies and safety features, such as adaptive Intelli-Lux HD headlights, are available across the three trim levels: Griffin, GS, and Ultimate.
Vauxhall Astra Electric
The Astra Electric is equipped with a new 58.3kWh (gross) / 55.4kWh (net) battery and a 156PS electric motor, generating 270Nm of torque. Energy-saving technologies, including battery pre-conditioning, are integrated to enhance range and driving efficiency. The Astra Electric hatchback accelerates from 0-62mph in 9.3 seconds, while the Sports Tourer achieves this in 9.5 seconds. Both models have a top speed of 106mph.
The provisional WLTP range for the hatchback is up to 281 miles, and for the Sports Tourer, it is up to 276 miles, representing a 22-mile increase from the previous model. Three levels of regenerative braking, adjustable via steering wheel paddles, contribute to energy recovery.
The Astra Electric supports 100kW DC rapid charging, allowing a 20-80% recharge in 32 minutes. An 11kW on-board charger is standard, facilitating a 20-80% charge from an 11kW AC charger in 3 hours 20 minutes, or 5 hours via a 7.4kW charger. Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality is now standard, enabling the charging of external devices.
Vauxhall Astra Plug-in Hybrid
Plug-in hybrid models combine a 1.6-litre petrol engine with a 17.2kWh battery, delivering a total output of 196PS and 360Nm of torque. The hatchback accelerates from 0-62mph in 7.6 seconds, and the Sports Tourer in 7.7 seconds, with a top speed of 140mph. The electric-only driving range is up to 52 miles (WLTP combined).
Vauxhall Astra 48V Hybrid
The 48V hybrid powertrain features a 136PS petrol engine and a 21PS electric motor, paired with an electrified six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The total system output is 145PS. This model achieves 0-62mph in 9.0 seconds and has a top speed of 130mph. The electric motor assists the petrol engine during acceleration and from a standstill, enabling all-electric driving for short distances or up to 50% of the time in urban environments.
Vauxhall Astra 1.2-litre Petrol
A 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol option, available with manual and automatic transmissions, will be introduced later in 2026.
Exterior Design
The New Astra features a narrower and more precisely designed Vauxhall Vizor. The illuminated Vauxhall Griffin is centrally positioned, forming the starting point for compass-inspired light strips that extend horizontally into the headlights and vertically into the bonnet crease. This design element was inspired by the 2023 Vauxhall Experimental concept.
Seven colour options are available, including Contour White. Electric Yellow is exclusive to the hatchback, and Clover Green debuts on the Sports Tourer. A contrasting black roof is available across all trim levels.
Specific alloy wheels are fitted per trim:
Griffin: 17-inch diamond-cut Noir Onyx ‘Kaddett’ alloys
GS: 18-inch ‘Pentagon’ black alloys
Ultimate: 18-inch ‘Pentagon’ diamond-cut wheels
Astra Electric: New 18-inch diamond-cut ‘Rekord’ alloy wheels
Interior and Technology
The redesigned cabin features a scratch-resistant satin grey finish on hard surfaces, replacing previous gloss black trim. Physical buttons are retained for key functions such including radio, climate control, and drive modes. An improved seven-colour ambient lighting system is included.
Intelli-Seats are standard on every version, featuring a recessed channel in the front seat bases designed to reduce pressure on the tailbone. An AGR-certified driver’s seat is available on all versions. Ultimate trim customers benefit from ReNewKnit™ seats, a 100% recycled fabric similar to Alcantara®, with heating and massage functions for the driver and front passenger. The front passenger seat on Ultimate trim is also AGR-certified.
Luggage volume for the hatchback is up to 1,339 litres with seats folded, while the Sports Tourer offers up to 1,634 litres. The rear seat backrest in the Sports Tourer can be folded in a 40:20:40 ratio.
All models feature a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay®/Android Auto® and satellite navigation. The GS trim includes the Pure Panel ‘Pro’ infotainment system, which integrates a 10-inch touchscreen and 10-inch digital instrument cluster into a seamless edge-to-edge glass display, alongside a 180° parking camera system. GS models also offer keyless entry and start, electric and heated door mirrors, and dual zone climate control.
Ultimate trim models are equipped with Intelli-Lux HD headlights as standard, which provide adaptive, glare-free lighting with over 50,000 elements. These headlights adjust light intensity in adverse weather and dim LEDs to prevent glare from traffic signs. Ultimate trim also includes Intelli-Hud (a head-up display), a wireless smartphone charger, Lane Positioning Assist, Blind Spot Alert, Lane Change Assist, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
